Seoul National University to Award 3 Billion Won in Special COVID-19 Scholarships
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Seoul National University has decided to refund a portion of the tuition fees paid for the first semester in the form of special scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who are experiencing academic difficulties and financial hardships due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Seoul National University stated, "After six meetings with the Tuition Review Committee, we have agreed on the recipients and methods of scholarship payments." Accordingly, Seoul National University plans to provide a total of 3 billion KRW in scholarships, divided into Emergency Academic Encouragement Grants (2 billion KRW) and Emergency Relief Scholarships (1 billion KRW).

The Emergency Academic Encouragement Grants will be distributed proportionally based on the student's own tuition payment for the first semester, excluding those who are fully exempt from tuition, on leave, withdrawn, or expelled. The Emergency Relief Scholarships are intended for undergraduate and graduate students who require financial support due to the COVID-19 situation. Recipients will be selected based on applications from students and consideration of income brackets. The COVID-19 special scholarships amount to approximately 10% of Seoul National University's undergraduate tuition for the first semester this year.
