View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) announced on the 17th that, together with Gachon University, it has been selected as a joint research institution for the development of the next-generation broadband software-defined radio frequency (RF) platform by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a leading research-focused university in Saudi Arabia.
This platform is a communication and signal processing system that enables RF band transmission and reception on a hardware platform. Existing hardware systems could only perform a single function.
The goal of this research is to develop a platform that allows users to easily and quickly implement and verify various signal processing systems by simply linking with existing simulation software.
Currently, multiple large devices such as digital signal analyzers, arbitrary signal generators, and digital signal processors are required to develop and verify signal processing systems.
Through this research, it is expected that both development and verification can be performed on a single integrated board that is miniaturized, lightweight, and low-power. In other words, the cost and time required for signal processing system development and verification can be drastically reduced.
KETI explained that it has an 'end-to-end integrated platform' to enable development and verification at low cost and in a short time, allowing successful commercialization of the technology.
This is because broadband, high-performance, multifunctional digital signal processing systems are essential in new industries such as 5G communication, smart factories, autonomous driving, and smart cities.

Gachon University will develop next-generation communication application systems using this technology and verify the system's completeness from the user's perspective.
Research leaders Changseok Yoon of KETI and Seongsik Nam of Gachon University said, "This research will enable rapid development and verification of next-generation broadband signal processing systems, greatly helping to elevate the research capabilities of related institutions to the next level."
KETI President Youngsam Kim stated, "With recent low oil prices, Middle Eastern countries' interest in industrial diversification is high, and advanced information and communication technology (IT) is gaining attention as a new cooperation tool. KETI plans to strengthen cooperation with several Middle Eastern countries interested in advanced IT industries, such as Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), through this joint research."
Meanwhile, KAUST is a research-focused university established in Jeddah, western Saudi Arabia, by King Abdullah in 2009 with a personal endowment of $20 billion (approximately 23.534 trillion KRW). It actively promotes research and development (R&D) and commercialization in future advanced fields with the goal of Saudi Arabia's 'post-oil economy.'
