"Global COVID-19 Clinical Trials Increase 23.8 Times in 6 Months"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The National Clinical Trial Support Foundation announced on the 17th that there are 23 clinical trials related to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) being conducted or planned domestically, of which 21 are for therapeutics and 2 are for vaccines.
As of the 15th, among the 21 therapeutic clinical trials, 8 are investigator-initiated trials and 13 are pharmaceutical company trials. Both vaccine clinical trials are pharmaceutical company trials.
Worldwide COVID-19 clinical trials have surged 23.8 times over six months. The total number of newly registered COVID-19 related clinical trials worldwide at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) is 1,335. Among these, 1,252 are for therapeutics and 83 are for vaccines. Specifically, therapeutic clinical trials increased 23.6 times, and vaccine trials increased 27.7 times.

Clinical trials for plasma therapy using plasma from COVID-19 recovered patients increased 44 times from 3 to 132 over the past six months. Antibody therapy clinical trials using blood from convalescent patients increased from 1 to 29 during the same period.
