IDEA is an international design award organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and is considered one of the world's top three design awards alongside the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award. It is the most influential design competition in the North American region, with judging criteria focusing on design innovation, user experience, and social contribution.
Samsung Electronics Wins 48 Design Awards... Gold for Bespoke UX
According to industry sources on the 17th, Samsung Electronics won a total of 48 design awards at 'IDEA 2020', including 1 Gold, 4 Silver, 4 Bronze, 1 Special Award, and 38 Finalists.
The Samsung Electronics design that won the Gold award, 'Bespoke Family Hub UX,' proposes a new lifestyle in the kitchen space through an integrated user experience of the refrigerator. This UX was designed based on insights into consumers seeking differentiated experiences according to their lifestyles, allowing users to share and create photos, recipes, and more via the refrigerator's screen.
The Silver-winning 'TV Eco Package' is a packaging box applying the upcycling concept to the packaging materials of lifestyle TVs released worldwide, including 'The Frame,' 'The Serif,' and 'The Sero.' It is designed to allow consumers to assemble it as they wish and recycle it for various uses such as a cat house or TV table, providing a DIY (Do It Yourself) experience.
Other Silver awardees include the QLED 8K TV 'Q950TS,' which maximizes screen immersion with its Infinity Screen, and 'The Serif VIS (The Serif Visual Identity System),' which presented a stylish visual strategy suited to millennial sensibilities. Bronze awards were given to the foldable smartphone 'Galaxy Fold,' the built-in kitchen Infinite Line oven, 'The Sero VIS (The Sero Visual Identity System),' and the advanced concept 'Inclusive IoT,' proposed for the hearing impaired using AI Sound Cognition technology.
LG Electronics Wins 10 Design Awards... Bronze for Cableless Signage
LG Electronics won a Bronze award for its cableless concept LED signage. This design was applied to the recently launched micro LED signage products 'LG Magnite' and 'LG LED Block.' It allows easy assembly like Lego blocks to create a large screen, making installation convenient and the back of the product neat.
The 'LG OLED Gallery TV,' reflecting changes in customer lifestyles, received a main award. It has been praised for its exceptional picture quality and artwork-like design, as well as form factor innovation that considers the space where customers install the TV. This product integrates all components into the main body, allowing the entire TV to be mounted flush against the wall, enhancing immersion and space utilization.
