Sangju City and Seosangju Nonghyup's 'Kembel Grape' First Export to the United States
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Sangju City, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 17th that on the 16th, a ceremony commemorating the export of Campbell grapes was held at Seosangju Nonghyup with attendance from farm members, NH Nonghyup Trade officials, Provincial Assemblyman Jinwook Kim, City Councilor Kyungsook Ahn, and Park Seongcheol from the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency Gumi Office.
This is the first export of Campbell grapes to the United States this year. The grapes shipped for export weighed 9,120 kg (one 40-foot container worth approximately 43 million KRW).
Since being designated as a government-approved horticultural specialized production complex in 2007, the Seosangju Nonghyup grape export complex has steadily expanded exports, significantly contributing to domestic market supply adjustment and price stabilization.
Despite poor agricultural conditions this year due to natural disasters such as typhoons, strict quality control has resulted in high sugar content, which is expected to attract great popularity not only among domestic consumers but also in overseas markets. Last year, Sangju City exported 732 tons of grapes (approximately 11.7 billion KRW) worldwide, of which 102 tons (about 700 million KRW) were exported to the United States.

Kim Jongdu, Head of Distribution Marketing at Sangju City, said, "Despite cold damage during the flowering period, insufficient sunlight due to the longest rainy season, and consecutive typhoons this year, we produced high-quality grapes," adding, "Sangju City will actively support stable farm income through continuous export expansion."
