The membership ceremony was held on the 16th at Daegu City Hall, attended by Mayor Kwon Young-jin and Kim Su-hak, chairman of the Daegu Community Chest of Korea.
Born in 1960 in Jecheon, Chungbuk, Beopgwang was ordained under Monk Gwanjeong at Seonamsa Temple in Suncheon. He graduated from Dongbang Buddhist University and the Sangyo Department of the Central Buddhist Seminary, a specialized educational institution for senior monks of the Taego Order. Notably, before ordination, Beopgwang was an inventor and won bronze medals at the German International Invention Exhibition and the LA World Invention Exhibition in the United States, showcasing his unique background.
With Beopgwang's membership, the 'Honor Society,' which mainly consists of businesspeople and professionals, is expected by Daegu City to expand its practice of 'noblesse oblige' to a more diverse range of social classes.
Beopgwang said, "I hope my small donation will serve as a catalyst, spreading the warm hearts of sacrifice and charity throughout Daegu," and added, "I wish the donated funds to be delivered well to neighbors in our region who truly need help."
