Distribution of Dementia Safety Silver Pens

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-su) is providing a non-face-to-face cognitive program for elderly people who cannot use the Memory Care Shelter due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), organized by the Dementia Safety Center.

For this project, the district produced a workbook called the "Dementia Safety Silver Pen." Participants can engage in cognitive training through the workbook, which consists of three daily sessions including activities such as finding matching pictures and writing the correct numbers. The workbook is provided weekly, with one volume containing a week's worth of material.

Along with the Dementia Safety Silver Pen, the district also distributes a Memory Care Box containing dementia prevention kits, cognitive activity tools, and posters illustrating indoor exercise methods.

The items are delivered to the elderly using mailboxes. The district supports not only existing users of the Memory Care Shelter but also elderly people waiting to participate in the shelter programs.

Additionally, the district plans to conduct continuous management via telephone through health coordinators. They will provide education on dementia safety activity sheets during calls, check the health status of the elderly, and inform them about COVID-19 prevention measures.

Park Kyum-su, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, "Care programs that were previously operated face-to-face have been suspended due to COVID-19, raising concerns about memory decline and worsening depression among dementia patients. We will do our best to develop various programs for dementia prevention to ensure there are no gaps in care."
