Geumcheon-gu Opens Seoul's First Convenience Store for Seniors

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that the convenience store "Chakhan Sanghoe," operated by seniors employed through the Geumcheon Senior Club, a dedicated institution for senior jobs, officially began full-scale operations on the 15th.
As part of the "Senior Job Market-Type Workplace Creation" project to create jobs for seniors, the district conducted market research and opened the first convenience store (GS25) operated by seniors in Seoul last August at Ace High-End 9th in Gasan-dong.
The store operates from Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with 10 senior employees aged 60 and over working in three shifts.
The seniors received training from September 1 to 14 and started official work on the 15th.
Earlier, to discover workplaces, the district conducted market research from January and signed a consignment franchise contract with GS25 in August. The franchise contract period is four years, and the franchise fee and deposit were waived as part of the convenience store headquarters' social contribution project.
Meanwhile, in June last year, the district established the "Geumcheon Senior Club," a dedicated institution for senior jobs in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, to support seniors' livelihood stability and vibrant old age.
In addition to "Chakhan Sanghoe," Geumcheon Senior Club operates a total of 13 senior job projects with 498 employees, including market-type businesses such as the senior cafe "Hamkke Green Cafe," which is a representative senior job project of the district, as well as public interest, social service, and employment referral types.
