[2021 Early Admission Special] Sungkyunkwan University, No Minimum CSAT Requirement for Department and Major Recruitment
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Sungkyunkwan University plans to select 2,441 students, accounting for 68.4% of the total recruitment quota, through early admission. The number of students selected by each admission type is 1,803 for the Student Record Comprehensive Screening, 532 for the Essay Excellence Screening, and 103 for the Arts and Physical Education Special Talent Screening.
Specifically, the Student Record Comprehensive Screening is divided into recruitment by division (655 students), recruitment by department (915 students), equal opportunity (40 students), and special screening outside the quota (193 students). Recruitment by division selects candidates 100% based on documents (school records and self-introduction). Recruitment by department selects candidates 100% based on documents except for six recruitment units (Pre-medical, Education, Chinese Classics Education, Mathematics Education, Computer Education, Sports Science). For these six units, in the first stage, candidates are selected at about three times the quota based on the total score of document evaluation (100%), and in the second stage, selection is based on 80% of the first stage document score and 20% interview.
Neither recruitment by division nor by department applies minimum CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) achievement standards or mandatory CSAT subject areas. Recruitment by division covers five recruitment units: Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Global Convergence Studies, selecting broadly. Students explore majors in the first year and enter departments in the second year. Meanwhile, recruitment by department is conducted by major reservation system and department/major units. Applicants are advised to select the desired recruitment unit first and then choose the corresponding admission type.
The basic application materials for the Student Record Comprehensive Screening are the student record and self-introduction letter. The self-introduction letter consists of three common questions from the Korea Council for University Education and one Sungkyunkwan University-specific question (motivation for application and personal efforts). The Essay Excellence Screening applies minimum CSAT achievement standards and evaluates 40% student record (curricular and extracurricular) and 60% essay test. Preparing through past questions and mock essays is most effective. Both humanities and natural sciences have three questions each, with a total time of 100 minutes.
