The National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives selected and awarded plaques to top metropolitan and local governments that increased their fisheries budgets compared to last year through an analysis of fisheries budgets nationwide this year. The selected local governments were Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk provinces, and the basic local governments Changwon City and Wando County.
The city's fisheries budget increased by a staggering 29.6 billion KRW from 27.4 billion KRW last year to 57.1 billion KRW this year, a 108.1% increase, ranking first among local governments nationwide, and was recognized for contributing to the income increase of fishery workers.

Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon City, promised, "We secured the budget to provide even more support to increase the income of fishery workers who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19," and added, "We will closely cooperate with the Fisheries Cooperative to find ways to support fishery workers in the future."
