Naju-si Holds Discovery Report Meeting for 'Korean New Deal Project'
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 14th that it recently held the 'Naju-type Korean New Deal National Treasury Proposal Project Discovery Report Meeting' at the city hall's large conference room.
The 'Korean New Deal' is a national project confirmed and announced by the government on July 14 to recover the economy after the COVID-19 crisis.
The city plans to achieve sectoral investment and job creation through three pillars?'Digital New Deal,' 'Green New Deal,' and 'Strengthening Safety Nets'?by 2025.
In particular, it focuses on the 'transition to a digital economy due to the surge in non-face-to-face demand caused by the prolonged COVID-19 crisis,' 'increased demand for a low-carbon, eco-friendly economy,' and 'realization of an inclusive nation amid the great transformation of the economic and social structure and labor market reorganization.'
The 'Naju-type Korean New Deal projects' revealed through this report meeting consist of a total of 32 projects (22 new and 10 ongoing) discovered as new projects or previously promoted by 17 departments, with a large-scale budget of 117.2 billion KRW (63.3 billion KRW from the national government, 15.6 billion KRW from the provincial government, 29.5 billion KRW from the city, and 8.8 billion KRW from private investment, etc.) planned to be invested.
The 'Digital New Deal' will invest 17.3 billion KRW in 10 projects, including ▲IoT-based safety and security services for elderly living alone, disabled persons, and emergency situations ▲support for customized learning content smart devices for after-school children ▲digital restoration of Naju City's core historic sites ▲establishment of Jeonnam VR·AR production hub center ▲installation of smart crosswalks ▲mobile healthcare, among others.
The 'Green New Deal' consists of 16 projects worth 95.4 billion KRW, including ▲green remodeling of child cultural spaces (Dream Start + child protection dedicated) ▲construction of medium and large secondary battery material parts testing and evaluation center ▲creation of child-safe Yellow Garden around schools ▲development of Naju-mok Green Road ▲expansion of emission reduction projects for diesel vehicles in operation ▲establishment of smart water network management infrastructure ▲early retirement support for old agricultural machinery, etc.
The 'Strengthening Safety Nets' sector will invest 4.3 billion KRW in 6 projects, including ▲expansion of public Wi-Fi for information-vulnerable groups ▲operation of visiting village markets ▲support for smartwatches as safety keepers for vulnerable groups, among others.
The city has decided to devote all efforts to continuous consultations with Jeonnam Province and central government ministries and securing national treasury funds for the successful promotion of the Naju-type New Deal projects.

Mayor Kang In-gyu said, "We will respond swiftly to government policy trends and securing national treasury funds so that the Naju-type New Deal can become a model case of the government's Korean New Deal policy for overcoming the COVID crisis and establishing a globally leading economic foundation," and added, "I hope that the projects discovered this time will be actively reflected in the central government ministry's public projects, and that everyone will do their best efforts."
