View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] CU will produce a ‘Memorial Package’ to honor the patriotic martyrs on the 100th anniversary of the death of Yu Gwan-sun on the 28th and will donate the proceeds to the Independence Hall of Korea.
The Memorial Package is composed mainly of quarantine supplies to reflect on the noble spirit of the independence movement in daily life and to hope for overcoming the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in line with the campaign slogan ‘Remember and Hope.’
The package contains 20 FilsonM Nopsae masks (KF80), 1 Filson hand sanitizer, 1 Filson antibacterial mask case, and 3 types of mini wappen patches. The wappen patches, which are decorative emblems such as logos, include three types: the ‘0928 Wappen’ representing the date of Yu Gwan-sun’s martyrdom, the ‘Mugunghwa Wappen’ symbolizing the national flower, and the ‘Smile Wappen’ wishing for the overcoming of COVID-19. These are designed to be attached to masks, eco-bags, pouches, and other personal items.
CU is conducting pre-orders for the Memorial Package through its membership app Pocket CU until the 17th. It is sold at a price of 19,200 KRW, about 70% off the regular price of 57,800 KRW, and customers who pre-order can pick up the product at designated stores starting from the 25th.
CU plans to donate the proceeds to the Independence Hall of Korea if the number of campaign participants reaches 928 or more. To participate, individuals must upload a photo wearing a mask with the wappen attached on their personal Instagram with the hashtag ‘#MemorialMask.’ The certification period is from the 25th to the 30th of this month.
As such, CU, as a Korean independent brand, is carrying out various activities to honor the spirit of the independence movement and widely share it with the public.
Last year, CU signed a business agreement with the Independence Hall of Korea for the popularization of independence movement history and has been introducing the ‘Independence Activist of the Month’ selected by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs on in-store bulletin boards every month. On the 110th anniversary of the assassination by An Jung-geun last year, CU formed the ‘Great Korean Exploration Team’ to visit the sites of An Jung-geun’s assassination and martyrdom to honor his noble spirit.
Earlier this year, CU also introduced historic sites of the March 1st Movement nationwide, such as Man-guk Park, Aunae Market, and Manse Hill, on the packaging of 13 popular private brand products. Additionally, CU opened the first and second convenience stores in Yeouido, Hangang, operated by families of independence activists in cooperation with the ‘Independence Patriots’ Families Welfare Business Association,’ investing and supporting store operations without hesitation.
