Kim Young-jong, Mayor of Jongno-gu, Elected as Standing Representative of Mokmingwan Club
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Kim Young-jong, Mayor of Jongno District, was elected as the new standing representative at the 8th Extraordinary General Meeting of the 7th Civilian Term Mokmingwan Club held on the 11th.
The Mokmingwan Club is a gathering of local government heads who voluntarily cooperate, research, and exchange ideas to practice grassroots democracy and achieve sustainable regional development together with local residents.
Composed of local government heads who agree with the purpose of the meeting beyond regions and political parties, the club regularly holds forums and seminars, conducts research on advanced cases, and organizes international conferences to promote global exchange and strengthen competitiveness.
The 8th Extraordinary General Meeting was held via video conference to prevent the spread of COVID-19, attended by 22 local government heads including Kim Young-jong, Mayor of Jongno District, and related officials, discussing matters such as the election of executives for the second half of the 7th Civilian Term Mokmingwan Club.

Following Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun District, Kim Young-jong, newly elected as the standing representative, said, “I feel grateful and at the same time a serious sense of responsibility in front of this honorable position. Since local autonomy began in Korea in 1995, the capabilities of local governments have grown remarkably. I believe the Mokmingwan Club has played a very significant role in this growth.” He added, “Following the steps of the past 10 years, I will do my best so that the think tank Hope Institute and the Mokmingwan Club can become a beacon for local governments in the Republic of Korea for the next 10 years.”
