People Party: "Joo Ho-young's Speech Was Solemn and Resolute"
"Raised Awareness for All Citizens"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 8th, the People’s Party praised the floor leader’s representative speech by Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, saying, “When he reproached the countless blunders of the current government, he was solemn with heartfelt sorrow as if vomiting them out, and when he expressed concerns about the future, he was somber but showed determination.”
On the same day, Ahn Hye-jin, spokesperson for the People’s Party, said in a commentary, “The proposal to use self-diagnosis kits alongside other measures to protect oneself from the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was a timely idea,” and added, “It is also reasonable that he accurately pinpointed the causes of the ongoing medical sector strike and suggested forming a consultative body among the ruling and opposition parties, the medical community, and the government to establish an optimal medical environment.”
Spokesperson Ahn stated, “It was natural to criticize the current government’s complacency regarding how much it is worrying about and preparing for the uncertainties of the post-COVID era, but I felt that only the role of the political circles was emphasized, and no practical countermeasures were being prepared.”
She said, “This speech, which fully revealed that the current government’s populist policy of reckless spending has completely destroyed fiscal soundness, that health insurance and employment insurance are recording deficits amounting to trillions of won and will soon become unsustainable, and that the national pension, which is responsible for the retirement of all citizens, will be completely depleted in about 30 years, raising serious concerns about the future society, must have awakened vigilance among all citizens.”
Spokesperson Ahn also said, “We highly evaluate the point that he reminded us of the crisis of dismantling the ROK-U.S. alliance, which covers military, security, economy, and public sectors, and emphasized the need for a diplomatic and security strategy prioritizing national interests within the world order for the peace on the Korean Peninsula, which seems to be drifting further away due to North Korea’s increasingly advanced nuclear weapons and missiles.”
She added, “He sharply criticized President Moon Jae-in, who has consistently ignored numerous disgraceful incidents that have harmed fairness and justice among the government’s power elites, and reminded us of the current situation where all investigations involving government officials, including those related to Cho Kuk, Yoon Mi-hyang, Oh Keo-don, Park Won-soon, Chu Mi-ae, Kim Kyung-soo, and others, are being dismissed, remanded, or stalled due to protecting their own side. I hope this will serve as an opportunity to revive the fairness of judicial institutions even now.”

Spokesperson Ahn concluded, “If all former lawmakers of the People Power Party sincerely engrave the contents of Floor Leader Joo’s speech in their hearts and realize them one by one with sincerity, I believe the party will be reestablished as the representative party that truly loves fairness and justice and pursues liberal democracy, escaping from the past branded as a lackey of the corrupt government.”
