Suncheon-si Selected 8 Resident Businesses for the Nation's Most Tourism-Dure Programs
Expectations for Resident-Led Initiatives as a Catalyst in Local Tourism Industry Development
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 7th that it has been selected as the nationwide leader with 8 new resident businesses in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s ‘2020 Tour Dure Resident Business Contest.’
The Tour Dure project is a government-funded initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism that supports local residents to independently start businesses such as camping, lodging, food, travel agency, and transportation through cooperation with Tour Dure PDs.
In Suncheon City, after CEO Mo Se-hwan (Regional Community Activation Center) was first selected as the 2nd Tour Dure in 2014, this year CEO Jeong Hee-ju (Cheongchunbeot s Tour) was selected as the 8th Tour Dure PD for the second time.
In July, PD Jeong Hee-ju invited local business owners to hold a ‘Tour Dure Resident Business Recruitment Project Briefing Session’ and selected 10 resident businesses composed of communities of five or more people hoping to start or improve management in the tourism sector, then applied to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Among the 10, the 8 businesses finally selected are ▲ Saekdareun Nyeoseokdeul Cooperative, ▲ Suncheon Daum, ▲ THE Gamdong, ▲ Suncheon Beer Limited Liability Company, ▲ Millim Super The Camping, ▲ Namjjok Dongnae, ▲ Railroad History and Culture Business Group Preparatory Committee, and ▲ Rakjagi Healing Travel.
The selected businesses this time consist of diverse age groups ranging from 20s youth communities to 60s senior communities, and each business can receive up to 70 million KRW over a maximum of five years for business plan establishment, capacity building, pilot projects, new product development, and promotional marketing.

A Suncheon City official said, “We will spare no cooperation and support to contribute to establishing a stable growth foundation for resident businesses through local content responding to the post-COVID era,” and added, “We expect this Tour Dure project to lead the local tourism industry proactively by local residents and serve as a catalyst.”
