Gwangju City Councilor Park Mijeong's 'Basic Ordinance on Sustainable Development' Passed Review
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The "Gwangju Metropolitan City Basic Ordinance on Sustainable Development," proposed by Park Mi-jeong, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (The Minjoo Party, Dong-gu 2), passed the Administrative and Autonomy Committee review at the 292nd extraordinary session on the 7th.
This ordinance focuses on future-oriented development that allows both current and future generations to live happily together by assessing the current status in various fields such as economy, society, and environment, and presenting directions for sustainable development of Gwangju Metropolitan City.
The main contents include the mayor's responsibilities, establishment of basic plans, implementation plans, sustainable development indicators, and the establishment of a committee.
Specifically, the ordinance stipulates that the mayor must organize systems related to sustainable development to ensure the city becomes sustainable considering future generations, enhance citizens' understanding, and actively listen to citizens' opinions to reflect them in policies.
It also specifies the establishment of a committee to efficiently promote sustainable development throughout city administration, and further includes developing educational programs, training professionals, and conducting active promotional activities to realize sustainable development.
Councilor Park Mi-jeong said, "The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are being implemented not only by OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries but also by many countries worldwide," adding, "Through the sustainable development ordinance, we will focus all our capabilities on creating a 'Gwangju-type sustainable development model' for the joint prosperity of current and future generations by linking Gwangju Metropolitan City's future vision with the sustainable development policy system."
