Gyeonggi Institute of Economy and Science to Host Online Blockchain Hackathon Competition
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency is recruiting teams to participate in the '2020 Gyeonggi-do Online Blockchain Hackathon' until the 21st.
A hackathon is a compound word of hacking and marathon, and it is an event in the information and communication field where planners, developers, designers, etc. form teams to come up with ideas and complete specific products or plans within a limited time.
Hosted by Gyeonggi-do and organized by the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency, this competition was prepared for the third time following last year to discover ideas for startups, social problem solving, and public social innovation based on blockchain, and to create business models. This competition will be held online in a non-face-to-face manner due to the impact of COVID-19.
Anyone can participate by forming a team of up to five people, including prospective entrepreneurs, startup employees, and university students.
The competition is divided into two categories: the 'Startup Model category' for discovering business ideas capable of generating revenue across all industries, and the 'Social Innovation category' aimed at improving the convenience and quality of life of Gyeonggi-do residents.
The competition will select 18 teams through preliminary judging on the 24th, followed by about one month of development, and the final round will be held on the 26th of next month.

Lim Moon-young, Director of Future Growth Policy at the province, stated, "Blockchain is a representative technology leading the 4th Industrial Revolution by promoting new value creation combined with various industries," and expressed hope that "through this hackathon, it will contribute to fostering new growth industries by expanding the base of the blockchain industry in Gyeonggi-do, creating an ecosystem, and raising awareness."
