Gangdong-gu Allocates 19 Billion KRW in 2nd Supplementary Budget Focused on COVID-19 Livelihood Stability
Focused Budgeting on Livelihood Measures Including Support for SMEs and Small Business Owners... Actively Participating in the Government's Expansionary Fiscal Policy for Regional Economic Stabilization
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has prepared a second supplementary budget of 19 billion KRW following the first supplementary budget of 66.5 billion KRW in response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
This supplementary budget focuses on stabilizing livelihoods affected by COVID-19, revitalizing the local economy, and essential ongoing projects. In particular, the funds were secured through adjustment grants and expenditure restructuring to maximize the use of available resources.
With the supplementary budget, the district plans to allocate 3.7 billion KRW for supporting small business owners, low-income workers, and issuing local currency, and 300 million KRW to support reemployment for unemployed youth and jobless individuals to promote local economic revitalization.
Additionally, 1.3 billion KRW has been allocated to strengthen quarantine measures due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, and 900 million KRW to expand support for influenza vaccinations, which have symptoms similar to COVID-19, actively responding to infectious diseases.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “The supplementary budget was prepared to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and address issues such as revitalizing the local economy. We will strive to execute the budget swiftly to inject vitality into the livelihood economy weakened by COVID-19 and do our best in quarantine activities so that residents can feel safe.”

The main budget of Gangdong-gu is 709.72751 billion KRW, with the first supplementary budget prepared in May amounting to 66.53498 billion KRW, and the current second supplementary budget totaling 18.95469 billion KRW. Including deemed processing (national and city funds, special grants, etc.), the total budget scale for this year reaches 1.02906961 trillion KRW.
