[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Hansem Co., Ltd., a comprehensive home interior specialist company, has formed a strategic partnership with Samsung Electronics to expand its remodeling business, link retail sales, and implement smart home solutions, continuing broad cooperation in these areas.
Hansem and Samsung Electronics announced on the 7th that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 4th at Hansem’s headquarters in Sangam-dong, Seoul, agreeing to a "strategic business cooperation beneficial to the development of both companies." The signing ceremony was attended by Hansem Chairman Kang Seung-soo, Vice Chairman Lee Young-sik, and Samsung Electronics Korea Head Vice President Kang Bong-gu, among other executives from both companies.
Through the MOU, the two companies promised ▲ cooperation to expand the remodeling business, ▲ joint discovery of business opportunities for retail sales linkage, and ▲ mutual cooperation to implement smart home solutions. With growing interest in residential environments and homes becoming the center of life, the ‘home economy’ industry is expected to experience significant growth. Since furniture and home appliances are closely interconnected in home interiors, the collaboration between the two companies is expected to propose new living spaces suited to changing lifestyles.
The combination of furniture and home appliances will not only enhance functionality and spatial convenience but also achieve harmonious design, enabling ‘customized interiors’ that reflect diverse consumer tastes. Various home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, clothing care devices, air conditioners, dishwashers, and cooktops will be able to blend seamlessly with home spaces through customized design, creating interiors that feel like a single integrated product.
To realize this, the two companies plan to continue multifaceted cooperation. First, they will expand their business to target the remodeling market, strengthening existing product lineups through joint development of new products and launching joint furniture and home appliance package products. They will maximize synergy in customized furniture and home appliance linked sales and introduce home appliance packages combining Samsung’s Bespoke products with Hansem’s remodeling offerings.
They will also strengthen joint retail projects such as ‘shop-in-shop’ installations and co-store establishments. Samsung home appliances will be introduced in Hansem Design Parks, and Hansem products will be displayed at Samsung Digital Plaza, creating new distribution channels where customers can explore furniture and interiors at once. Initially, they will utilize existing infrastructure such as Daegu Design Park and Samsung Digital Plaza to establish distribution channels and later discuss plans for joint complex store openings. This will enable interior consultations that combine spatial efficiency, convenience, and design from the initial purchase stage of furniture and home appliances.
Furthermore, they agreed to jointly pursue new businesses to implement smart home solutions that will innovate future residential environments. Hansem and Samsung Electronics are already cooperating in the smart home solution field by sharing Hansem’s interior design platform, the ‘Home Planner System.’
At the signing ceremony, Hansem Chairman Kang Seung-soo said, "Through the cooperation between Hansem, which has accumulated 50 years of lifestyle know-how, and Samsung Electronics, the world’s leading home appliance company, we will propose new living spaces that will change the future of life."
