[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is rapidly spreading in India.
According to foreign media on the 6th, India's daily new confirmed cases reached 90,632. The number of new cases, which rose to the 80,000 range on the 3rd, surpassed 90,000 within three days.
India already surpassed the United States' daily world record on the 30th of last month, with 78,761 new confirmed cases.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases also approached Brazil, ranked second, by 10,000 cases with 4,113,811 (Brazil: 4,123,000, based on Worldometer excluding India). The United States, ranked first globally in this category (6,431,152), and Brazil have recently seen their daily new confirmed cases drop to the 30,000 to 50,000 range.
In early May, when quarantine controls were initially eased, new cases mainly appeared in major cities such as New Delhi and Mumbai, but now the spread is rapidly increasing nationwide, including provincial large cities and rural areas.
