87.4% of Seoul National University Hospital Professors Support Resident Doctors' Return to Clinical Practice
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] As residents have tentatively decided to return to work on the 7th, the Emergency Response Committee of Seoul National University Hospital Professors stated in a press release on the 6th that they "fully trust and support the decision of the Young Doctors Emergency Response Committee's executive team to have the residents return."
According to the Emergency Response Committee of Seoul National University Hospital Professors, an urgent survey was conducted among 1,326 professors from five medical schools and hospitals, including Seoul National University College of Medicine and Seoul National University Hospital, regarding the residents' return to clinical practice. Among the 819 respondents, 87.4% expressed support.
The committee explained, "We express our gratitude and respect for the young doctors who stopped the policy implementation that was being carried out unilaterally and ensured it was reconsidered from the beginning," adding, "We will request the school, hospital, and government to prevent any harm to medical students, residents, and fellows."
They continued, "We will strive to ensure that the agreed-upon matters are implemented transparently, and if future policies are again pushed unilaterally, we will not stand by but take strong action," and said, "For the citizens who have trusted and supported us and the patients who have endured inconvenience, we will do our best together with the young doctors to create proper medical policies going forward."
The Young Doctors Emergency Response Committee tentatively concluded to return to work on the same day. However, due to internal disagreements over detailed matters such as the committee's future direction, no official statement has been released.
