Wando-gun Launches 'Movement Stop Campaign' for Chuseok Holiday
Request to Refrain from Homecoming and Return Trips, Special Measures Including Grave Mowing Proxy Services Prepared
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that it will carry out a "Stop Movement" campaign during the Chuseok holiday for residents and hometown visitors to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As COVID-19 cases surged during vacation periods and holidays, concerns are growing that the large-scale national movement could become another trigger for the spread of COVID-19. The government is also struggling to prepare quarantine measures for the Chuseok holiday.
The county has made great efforts to maintain a clean area by operating fever screening stations and controlling tourist arrivals to block the transmission chain of COVID-19, but a confirmed case was reported on the 27th of last month.
The confirmed case was infected by contact with an outsider during a visit to Seoul, indicating that visiting other regions and contact with others pose a high risk of exposure to infectious diseases.
Accordingly, Wando-gun plans to urge residents and hometown visitors to refrain from traveling to and from their hometowns and to implement special measures.
First, for those who cannot come to perform grave trimming, a "Grave Trimming Agency Service" will be provided with up to a 40% discount on agency fees for applications received by the 11th.
The grave trimming agency service is carried out through an agreement with the Wando-gun Forestry Cooperative. Applications are received at the towns and townships, and after confirming whether the applicant is an expatriate, the eligible persons are notified to the Wando-gun Forestry Cooperative for implementation.
For hometown visitors who cannot come home, an "Online Parent Care" service will be provided, supporting video calls with parents or recording greeting videos to send to children.
For 697 households with elderly living alone, the Wando-gun Happiness Welfare Foundation will provide food-sharing services for the Chuseok holiday.
In addition, as the number of visitors decreases, the county plans to actively promote purchasing Chuseok holiday gifts from local stores as a measure to revitalize the local economy to residents and hometown visitors.
Wando-gun Mayor Shin Woo-cheol will send letters to about 700 people, including village representatives, heads of social organizations, and hometown association presidents, appealing to refrain from traveling during the Chuseok holiday.
The county will launch a campaign to practice refraining from traveling to and from hometowns from the 14th, with heads of local social organizations and village chiefs participating in promotional activities.
Furthermore, through a joint appeal by hometown association presidents nationwide from Seoul, Busan, Gwangju, Incheon, Ansan, Mokpo, Jeju, and others, they aim to encourage participation and cooperation from members.
