Yeosu City Announces Plan to Build Youth Dream Space '(Tentative) Youth Community Center'
Establishing and Operating a Youth Activity Platform Supporting Growth as Leaders of a Healthy Future
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City announced on the 3rd that it plans to build a comprehensive youth activity platform called the (tentative name) Youth Community Center to support young people's future planning and dream challenges.
With the Yeosu City Hall Munsu Building relocating to Chonnam National University Gukdong Campus around December, the (tentative name) Youth Community Center will be newly constructed on the Munsu Building site, which offers easy site acquisition and accessibility.
The building will have one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 4,800㎡ and a project cost of 12 billion KRW.
The city completed a feasibility study for the center's construction in July and plans to open the center in the second half of 2023 by proceeding with administrative procedures necessary for construction along with the purchase of the site.
Currently, the youth population (ages 19-39) in Yeosu is about 70,000, accounting for 25 percent of the city's total population. However, the continuous increase in youth outmigration makes it urgent for the city to establish policies to improve youth settlement conditions.
Accordingly, the city plans to create a dedicated youth activity space that oversees youth communication, employment and startup support, and cultural and artistic creative activities, supporting young people to grow as mature citizens who value community and are healthy leaders of the future rather than being alone.
A city official stated that they will do their best to ensure that the construction of the youth activity center, which young people have continuously requested, proceeds without any setbacks.
