View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 3rd that it has appointed Kwon Oh-kyung, Chairman of the Korean Academy of Engineering, as the head of the 'Materials, Components, and Equipment Startup 100 National Review Panel.'
The National Review Panel will be launched on the 4th. It will play a role in evaluating promising startups in the materials, components, and equipment (SoBuJang) sector that will lead the post-COVID-19 era and providing opinions. Participants include experienced entrepreneurs, experts from universities and government-funded research institutes, incubators and investors, startup representatives, and citizens who meet certain criteria such as technical and management experience.
The National Review Panel consists of a total of 60 members, 12 each selected by lottery from five fields among those with more than three years of experience in related areas. The fields are smart engineering, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things, new materials, bio, and renewable energy.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to select a total of 100 SoBuJang startups by 2024, including 20 this year.

Kwon Oh-kyung, head of the National Review Panel, said, "In a situation where the global division of labor is being shaken due to COVID-19 and other factors, securing competitiveness in materials, components, and equipment is key for South Korea to leap forward as a global manufacturing hub. The Startup 100 in SoBuJang is expected to greatly contribute to creating a competitive SoBuJang ecosystem in the post-COVID-19 era by connecting promising startups with innovative ideas and technologies to the demand of large corporations."
