Suwon City Conducts 'Facility Inspections' in Preparation for Typhoon Maysak
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has completed inspections of facilities at risk of accidents in preparation for the northward approach of Typhoon No. 9 'Maysak' (MAYSAK).
On the 2nd, Suwon City inspected signboards, banners, construction sites, shade tents, commercial store stockpiles, street trees, and underpass drainage outlets, and took safety measures for any facilities requiring reinforcement.
Earlier that day, the city held a typhoon preparedness meeting at the City Hall Disaster Safety Situation Room.
Kim Yong-deok, Director of the City Safety and Transportation Bureau, said, "Heavy rain is expected from this typhoon," adding, "We are preparing and implementing departmental response plans, including inspecting and cleaning underpass drainage outlets by the morning of the 2nd."
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 9 a.m. that day, Typhoon Maysak was moving northward at 19 km/h in the sea about 310 km south of Seogwipo. The radius of strong winds is 360 km, and the maximum wind speed is 45 m/s.

Maysak is expected to pass east of Jeju Island that evening, make landfall between Geoje in South Gyeongsang Province and Busan around dawn on the 3rd, pass through the Yeongnam region and nearby East Coast cities, and then move out into the central East Sea.
