Gimcheon City Bans Traffic on Gampo Bridge Due to 'Bridge Cracks'... 22 Billion Won to Rebuild Next Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] As Typhoon No. 9 'Maysak' is approaching, cracks have been discovered on the deck of Gampo Bridge, which connects Taechon-ri, Gammun-myeon to Uiri, Apo-eup in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk.
Gimcheon City has completely blocked traffic on the bridge since shortly after 1 p.m. on the 1st, when the cracks were found, and is directing vehicles to detour via Daedonggyo direction (Daesin-ri, Apo-eup ~ Dongbu-ri, Gaeryeong-myeon).
Gampo Bridge, which crosses Gamcheon (total length 340m, width 8m), was completed in December 1990, 30 years ago. Its safety rating is 'D grade', and it is managed as a bridge that needs to be newly installed.
Over the past 10 years, Gimcheon City has focused on repairs and reinforcements, investing 567 million KRW in seven projects. This year, the city secured a total project budget of 22 billion KRW (11 billion KRW national funds, 3.3 billion KRW provincial funds, 7.7 billion KRW city funds) to build a new bridge. The scheduled start date is March 2021, with a target completion date by the end of 2022.
