SPC Samlip Signs Business Agreement with Meal Kit Company 'Food Assemble' to Strengthen Food Business

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] SPC Samlip announced on the 2nd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for expanding its meal kit business with the meal kit specialist company ‘Food Assemble’.
‘Food Assemble,’ established in 2018, is a meal kit manufacturer (MealKit, a ready-to-cook product that provides ingredients and seasonings as a set) equipped with core capabilities including its own R&D functions. Its products are sold through its own shopping mall as well as Coupang, KakaoTalk, Emart Mall, and SSG.com.
Through this MOU, SPC Samlip plans to expand its meal kit business and strengthen its food business capabilities.
SPC Samlip intends to leverage its fresh ingredient supply chain, product manufacturing technology, marketing capabilities, and distribution channels to jointly develop differentiated exclusive meal kit products with ‘Food Assemble,’ which specializes in meal kit manufacturing. Initially, they will develop meal kits that allow customers to easily enjoy local specialty restaurant menus and sell them through highway rest areas operated by SPC Samlip.
An SPC Samlip marketing official stated, “We focused on the growth potential of the meal kit market and proceeded with a business agreement that can coexist with meal kit startups. Through this collaboration, we plan to expand SPC Samlip’s HMR brands such as ‘Pig in the Garden’ and ‘Samlip Eats’ into the meal kit sector to strengthen our food business capabilities.”

Meanwhile, according to the Korea Rural Economic Institute, the domestic meal kit market size was around 40 billion KRW last year and is expected to grow 17 times to reach 700 billion KRW by 2024.
