[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is conducting various themed non-face-to-face physical activity challenges that comply with strengthened social distancing rules to promote physical activity, which has been reduced due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The district held a ‘Tap Ball Challenge’ for children at local community centers and after-school classrooms.
Tap Ball is an exercise device where a band with a ball attached to a string is worn on the head, and the ball is hit with a fist. It helps relieve stress, improve reflexes, and is effective for aerobic exercise.
The district also runs a ‘Walking Challenge’ every month that anyone living in Dongdaemun-gu can participate in.
The September Walking Challenge runs from the 7th to the 13th. Participants must walk 10,000 steps or more at least four times, capture a screenshot showing the step count and date, and send it via chat on the KakaoTalk channel ‘Dongdaemun-gu Daily Life Becomes Exercise’ to verify participation.
Prizes for the September Walking Challenge include a 5,000 KRW Starbucks e-gift card (100 winners), stretching tools (10 winners), and portable fans (5 winners).
A district official stated, “By providing various prizes through a lottery, voluntary participation from residents is increasing.”
A new upcoming challenge is the ‘Haek-Inssa Challenge.’ The Haek-Inssa Challenge involves taking photos in popular insider (Inssa, short for insider) poses?referring to people who actively participate in various events and gatherings and get along well with others?and uploading them on Instagram. The district will select first to third place based on the number of likes and comments and award various prizes.
In addition to challenges, simple exercise posts that can be done easily in daily life are provided through the KakaoTalk channel and Instagram to help promote physical activity.
