[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has selected 12 youth-friendly part-time job workplaces to support businesses that provide a good working environment for teenagers.
Starting this year, it is the first autonomous district in Seoul to promote the 'Youth-Friendly Part-Time Job Workplace Certification Project.'
The friendly workplaces are selected through a process where recommendations from youth are received in the first round, followed by a second round of on-site inspections, and finally a review by a public-private council.
The certification criteria for friendly workplaces include five items: ▲ preparation and issuance of labor contracts ▲ payment of at least the minimum wage ▲ payment of weekly holiday allowance for working more than 15 hours per week ▲ guarantee of respectful treatment ▲ recommendations from the workers themselves.
To promote the project, the district first revised relevant regulations and conducted a first online survey in June targeting working youth, with 310 participants.
As a result of the first survey, 19 workplaces were selected for the second survey, during which the Youth Labor Rights Protection Team participated in the on-site inspections.
The protection team, composed of six university students trained by a certified labor attorney, visited the sites, checked labor contracts, and conducted individual interviews with business owners and part-time youth workers as part of the second on-site investigation.
Afterward, through in-depth deliberations by the Gangdong-gu Youth Labor Rights Protection Public-Private Council, 12 workplaces were finally selected, and plaques were delivered on August 25.
The list of selected workplaces is as follows:
▲ Lotteria Sangil-dong Branch ▲ Manhwa Cafe Beoltun Godeok Branch ▲ Mom's Touch Amsa Station Branch ▲ McDonald's Sangil-dong Branch ▲ Mega Coffee Godeok Station Branch ▲ Baskin Robbins Gangdong Station Branch ▲ Acro English Tutoring Academy ▲ Yul Bakery ▲ Paris Baguette Godeok Raemian Hills Branch ▲ Paris Baguette Sangil Central Branch ▲ Huangpu China ▲ CU Dunchon Branch (in alphabetical order)
The district will provide the 12 selected workplaces with certification plaques and pay public utility fees and volume-based waste bags up to 240,000 KRW annually, as well as support customer hygiene and convenience items worth about 50,000 KRW for one year.
Additionally, the selected businesses will be promoted to Gangdong residents through the district office website and social media.
