Changwon City Lays Foundation for Increasing Fishermen's Income through Expansion of Fishing Port Infrastructure

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 1st that it is promoting development projects to improve living conditions in fishing villages and increase fishermen's income by expanding fishing port infrastructure and environmental maintenance with a project budget of 4.07 billion KRW this year.
According to the city, the Samgwi Coastal Road Coastal Walkway Construction Project in Gwisandong has completed work on 4.8 km out of a total 5.8 km section, and in the second half of the year, it plans to invest 1.204 billion KRW to additionally implement a 1.0 km section between Doosan Heavy Industries and Seokgyo Village.
Also, among the 4th Comprehensive Island Development Project with a total budget of 18.4 billion KRW, four projects including the Songdo Wharf installation currently underway this year are investing 1.474 billion KRW to expand fishing infrastructure to improve living conditions for island area fishermen.
The city plans to alleviate fishermen's inconveniences by promoting maintenance projects for small-scale fishing port facilities such as installing boat hoists necessary for repairing fishing vessels and lifting catches, installing floating docks, extending breakwaters, and building fishing gear storage warehouses.

Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Marine Port and Fisheries Bureau, said, “We will do our best to improve fishing village facilities by frequently inspecting sites to ensure fishermen’s stable livelihoods.”
