[2021 Budget] Sejong Secures 'Government Budget of 568.6 Billion KRW' Including Design Costs for National Assembly Sejong Hall
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City has secured 568.6 billion KRW in government budget for next year, which includes design costs for the National Assembly Sejong Office Building.
According to the city on the 1st, the secured government budget for next year is 14.9% higher than this year’s 495 billion KRW. Adding the 413.6 billion KRW from the Administrative City Construction Special Account, the total government budget increases by 17.5% compared to this year, reaching 982.2 billion KRW.
The government budget includes 1 billion KRW for the design of the National Assembly Sejong Office Building, 217.3 billion KRW for the Sejong?Pocheon (Sejong?Anseong section) expressway, 6.1 billion KRW for the design of the Sejong?Cheongju expressway, and 8 billion KRW for the establishment of the Sejong Credit Guarantee Foundation.
The city emphasizes that all projects selected and proposed as key tasks, including these, have been included in the government budget. It highlights the significance of the large-scale reflection of project budgets necessary for establishing the administrative capital base.
The government budget also accounts for 51.6 billion KRW for metropolitan transportation facility projects such as the Bugang Station?Buk Daejeon IC connecting road and the Sejong?Jochiwon connecting road, as well as 13 billion KRW for future growth engine expansion projects including autonomous driving demonstration R&D support, autonomous driving big data control center construction, regional innovation cluster development, and reinforcement of functions at the industry-academia-research cluster support center.
Additionally, major projects related to cultural infrastructure expansion included in the government budget are 32 billion KRW for the construction of the National Museum Complex, 27.3 billion KRW for the construction of the Art Center, and 2 billion KRW for the creation of Sejong Veterans Plaza.
The city plans to actively engage in the National Assembly’s review process once the government budget proposal is submitted to the National Assembly, aiming to secure additional budget increases for projects that require further reflection.

Sejong Mayor Lee Chun-hee stated, “Based on the largest amount of national funding secured since the city’s launch, we will do our best to complete the administrative capital and recover the local economy,” adding, “The city will continue to strengthen cooperation with local National Assembly members to ensure additional national funding is reflected during the National Assembly’s deliberation process.”
