Jeju Police Agency Operates 'Voluntary Reporting Period for Illegal Weapons'
If You Voluntarily Report During September, Criminal and Administrative Liability Will Be Exempted
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Provincial Police Agency announced on the 31st that it will operate September as the second voluntary reporting period for illegal weapons to prevent the possibility of terrorism and crimes caused by various illegal weapons.
The targets for voluntary reporting of illegal weapons include firearms possessed without permission or whose possession permits have been revoked, explosives (such as dynamite, gunpowder, live ammunition, shells), swords, spray devices, electronic shockers, crossbows, and all other illegal weapons. If reported during this voluntary reporting period, criminal and administrative liabilities will, in principle, be exempted. If the individual wishes to possess the weapon, permission will be granted after a verification process including disqualification checks.
To report, the individual or a proxy can submit the illegal weapons to the nearest police station, police substation, or police box, or to military units where reporting offices are established. If it is difficult to submit the illegal weapons during the reporting period due to unavoidable circumstances, prior reporting by phone or mail followed by submission of the actual items is also possible.
The police will minimize direct face-to-face contact with related persons during the voluntary reporting period. Mail submissions should be sent to the following address: Jeju Provincial Police Agency, Public Order Division, Illegal Weapons Voluntary Reporting Officer, 18 Munyeon-ro, Jeju City (Postal code 63122).
Jeju Provincial Police Agency urged everyone to report all illegal weapons during this voluntary reporting period, as nationwide intensive crackdowns on illegal weapons will be conducted throughout October after the voluntary reporting period ends.
In particular, since penalties for illegal manufacturing, selling, or possession of firearms have been strengthened since September 19 of last year (imprisonment for 3 to 15 years, fines ranging from 30 million to 100 million KRW), they repeatedly urged not to miss this opportunity and to report without omission.
