View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Typhoon No. 9 'Maysak (MAYSAK)' is expected to pass east of Jeju Island on the 2nd of next month, then pass near the east coast of Gyeongsang Province in the early morning of the 3rd before moving into the East Sea.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 3 PM on the 31st, the typhoon is moving north-northwest at a speed of 37 km/h in the sea about 270 km south of Okinawa, Japan.
The central pressure is 950 hPa, the radius of strong winds is about 380 km, and the maximum wind speed has developed to a strong intensity of 155 km/h (43 m/s).
The typhoon is expected to pass closest to Jeju Island at night on the 2nd and near Busan inland in the early morning of the 3rd. Passing through a high sea surface temperature area of around 30 degrees along its path, it is expected to develop into a very strong typhoon as it enters the sea east of Jeju Island and maintain this intensity.
Due to the rain cloud bands accompanying the typhoon, rain will begin in Jeju on the morning of the 1st, expanding to the southern regions in the morning of the 2nd and nationwide in the afternoon. Rainfall of 100 to 300 mm is expected mainly in Gyeongsangnam-do, the east coast, Gangwon Yeongdong, and Jeju Island, which are close to the typhoon's path, with particularly heavy rain exceeding 400 mm expected in the eastern coast of Gangwon, eastern coast of Gyeongsang, and mountainous areas of Jeju. Additionally, Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do (excluding the east coast), Chungbuk, and Gangwon Yeongseo are expected to receive 100 to 200 mm of rain, while other regions will see 50 to 150 mm of heavy rainfall.

Very strong winds of up to 180 km/h are expected mainly in Jeju and the Gyeongsang east coast, which are closest to the typhoon's path. Other areas will experience strong winds ranging from 36 to 108 km/h (30 to 50 m/s).
Jeju, the southern coast, and the Gyeongsang east coast are at high risk of storm surges due to the coincidence with high tide periods, and the East Coast may also experience waves overtopping breakwaters, so caution is advised.

However, the typhoon's path may still change. With the North Pacific High to the right of Korea located far to the east and dry air approaching from the west, the typhoon may move to the right while moving north. In this case, the typhoon may move over the sea without making landfall, but due to its large radius, the impact on Korea will be similar. A Korea Meteorological Administration official stated, "We will be able to determine the typhoon's path more clearly by tomorrow afternoon."
