Nambu University Recruits Professor Lee Seung-jae as Head of Region's First Swimming Team
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Nambu University announced on the 31st that it has recruited Professor Lee Seungjae, a former national water polo coach, ahead of the establishment of the first swimming team in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region in 2021.
Professor Lee served as the national water polo coach at the 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championships held at Nambu University last year and played a key role in achieving the first-ever victory at the World Championships against New Zealand.
The Nambu University swimming team will consist of a total of 25 members, including men's water polo, swimming, diving, and fin swimming, and plans to recruit mainly freshmen through early and regular admissions next month.
Nambu University decided to establish the swimming team to contribute to the expansion of the swimming sport base by actively utilizing the world-class swimming pool where the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade and the 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championships were held.
In particular, the establishment of the university water polo team is the second nationwide after Korea National Sport University and is expected to contribute to the development of Korean water polo.
The inauguration ceremony of the Nambu University swimming team is scheduled to be held in February next year.

President Cho Seongsu of Nambu University said, “Nambu University is the only university in Korea that has an international standard swimming pool with the best and world-class modern facilities in Korea and will have the ‘Korea Swimming Promotion Center’ opening in 2023 on campus. Based on this infrastructure, we will invite excellent coaches and operate the Nambu University swimming team at a high level.”
