Nowon-gu Utilizes Big Data Technology to Develop Community Leisure Facilities
Visitor Numbers on Yeongchuksan Circular Trail Increase by 65% Compared to Last Year... Joint Research on Healing and Leisure Facility Improvements Under KT Partnership
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is integrating big data technology into the efficient establishment and utilization of residents' leisure facilities.
The district's effort to incorporate information and communication technology into the construction and use of leisure facilities aims to improve the limitations of the region's lack of tourist resources in the post-COVID-19 era, where non-face-to-face activities are increasing, and to provide high-quality leisure services to its residents.
According to an analysis of visitors to the Nowon area commissioned to KT, over the past two years, residents have shown a preference for local tourism compared to other local governments.
The proportion of residents among visitors was 65%, the second highest among Seoul's autonomous districts.
Among the four representative healing towns, the one with the highest usage rate by Nowon residents was Bulamsan Healing Town, accounting for 78%, and the circular walking trail of Yeongchuksan Healing Town had 65%. As of May this year, the average daily number of visitors was about 26,000, more than double compared to last year.
Additionally, Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Park is used by an average of 50,000 people daily, with Nowon residents making up 63%. In contrast, the Gyeongchun Line Bulbit Garden, which opened in December last year, had a relatively higher proportion of visitors from outside the area.
Nowon-gu, which has a total of 181 parks?the most among Seoul's 25 districts?has highlighted the importance of reflecting the needs of park users in facility improvements as a key policy task.
The district's park ratio is 6.3% higher than its population ratio, and it has more neighborhood parks and children's parks compared to other districts. The number of visitors to neighborhood parks increased by about 16% as of May this year compared to the same period in 2019, indicating that the usage rate of neighborhood parks has risen since COVID-19, but there is a shortage of theme parks.
This is why the ongoing 'Rebirth of Neighborhood Parks' project, which is converting 22 neighborhood parks in the area into theme parks under the '休 Garden Project,' is important to continue.
Based on this information, the district jointly analyzed with KT the areas and leisure facilities most preferred by tourists and systematically studied usage trends to develop improvement plans.
The improvement plans are broadly divided into four areas: ▲Analysis of domestic and international healing and leisure-related policies and trends ▲Big data-based analysis of Nowon-gu characteristics ▲Status and living area analysis of healing and leisure facilities ▲Derivation of improvement directions and detailed implementation tasks.
Furthermore, there are eight detailed implementation tasks: ▲Establishment of a smart healing town providing digital healing such as live cameras ▲Creation of smart convenience facilities along walking trails ▲Development of customized theme parks for residents by district ▲Creation of connecting trails between neighborhood parks ▲Internet broadcasting of small-scale performances in urban parks ▲Provision of untact performances and services for leisure culture ▲Provision of healing spaces using idle spaces ▲Senior care using smart ICT.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The results of this study highlight the achievements of the healing projects promoted by the district over the past two years, which have shone during the COVID-19 situation, and clearly show the changed patterns of healing and leisure use.” He added, “We plan to actively reflect the implementation tasks such as the creation of customized theme parks and river maintenance plans in district administration to build a new leisure environment for residents in the post-COVID-19 era.”
