Transformation of Leftover Land... Yeongdeungpo-gu Creates 46 Parking Spaces
Daerim-dong Resident Priority Parking Lot with 46 Spaces to Operate from September... Affordable Parking Fees, Property Tax Exemption or Revenue Sharing for Owners
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) has created 46 resident-priority parking spaces by utilizing idle leftover land to alleviate parking difficulties in residential and commercial areas and improve the local parking environment.
Unlike large-scale public parking lots that require huge budgets, leftover parking lots can be created at low cost in a short period, making investment and operation efficient. This contributes to solving parking problems in residential areas and also improves urban aesthetics through the maintenance of leftover land.
The main content of the "Leftover Parking Lot Creation" project is that when the district and landowners sign an agreement allowing the use of the land for more than one year, the district creates resident-priority parking lots.
Once the parking lot is created, residents are provided with resident-priority parking spaces at a low cost, and landowners receive operating income equivalent to 40,000 KRW per vehicle per month or property tax exemption benefits.
The newly established parking lot is located at 599 Siheung-daero (Daerim 2-dong), on the site of Felice Art Hall, which had been vacant as an idle space after the wedding hall ceased operations.
Accordingly, the district signed an "Agreement on Installation and Management of Leftover Land Parking Lot" with The Heim, the project operator for the revitalization of the station area on the site, and created a temporary resident-priority parking lot for Daerim-dong residents, starting operation from September 1.
The parking lot operation period is expected to last about one year until the start of the station area revitalization project on the site in 2021.
Yeongdeungpo-gu has actively promoted the "Residential Area Leftover Land Utilization Parking Lot Creation Project" as a solution to the severe parking problems in residential areas and to overcome the spatial and financial limitations of constructing large-scale public parking lots.
Last year, including the opening of a total of 7 locations with 153 parking spaces, a total of 15 locations with 348 parking spaces have been created using leftover land since the project began, striving to resolve residents' inconveniences.
The leftover land parking lot creation project is implemented year-round. Those who wish to provide idle parking lot sites can contact the Parking Culture Division of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office, and residents who wish to use the parking lots can inquire at the Yeongdeungpo-gu Facilities Management Corporation.
