[Asia Economy Reporters Kang Nahum and Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Nak-yeon has been elected as the new leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. Five members, Kim Jong-min, Yeom Tae-young, Noh Woong-rae, Shin Dong-geun, and Yang Hyang-ja, were elected as Supreme Council members.
On the 29th, the Democratic Party held a national delegate convention at the Yeouido Central Party Office, where Lee received 60.77% of the votes, defeating former member Kim Boo-kyum (21.37%) and member Park Joo-min (17.85%), the party announced on the 29th.
In the Supreme Council election to select five members, Member Kim Jong-min received 19.88% of the votes, ranking first. Following him were Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young (13.23%), Noh Woong-rae (13.17%), Shin Dong-geun (12.16%), and Yang Hyang-ja (11.53%). The member with the highest vote percentage, Kim Jong-min, will serve as the Senior Supreme Council member.
Members Han Byung-do (11.14%), Lee Won-wook (11.43%), and So Byung-hoon (7.47%), who also competed, unfortunately did not make the cut and were defeated.
