Please Help Name the 'Next-Generation KTX' Yourself, Dear Citizens
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) is holding a public naming contest for the new next-generation KTX, scheduled to be introduced at the end of this year.
The next-generation KTX is the first distributed power high-speed train developed with domestic technology. Unlike the current concentrated power KTX, known as EMU-320, which has separate power cars at the front and rear of the train, this train has power and braking devices in each car.
It was developed to optimize seat efficiency and acceleration/deceleration performance for the Korean terrain and characteristics. The maximum speed is 260 km/h, and it features a streamlined exterior, wireless charging at every seat, spacious seating, and other facilities for a comfortable and pleasant journey.
Anyone who is a citizen of the Republic of Korea can participate in this contest. There is no limit on the number of characters, but considering consistency with the existing KTX brand, the name should be in the format "KTX-OOO," reflecting the advantages and characteristics of the next-generation KTX.
To participate, visit the contest page on the Korea Railroad website or the Facebook page, write the name of the next-generation KTX along with a brief explanation of its meaning, and submit it.
Submissions will be accepted until the 6th of next month. KORAIL will provide participants with prizes such as Onnuri gift certificates and 50% discount coupons for KTX through a lottery. For more details, please refer to the KORAIL website.
KORAIL will finalize the name of the next-generation KTX by combining the results of the public contest and the opinions of naming experts, forming a train name recommendation jury composed of customer representatives, academia, linguistic societies, and branding experts.
