Jeju City Urban Construction Bureau, Excessive Promotion of Specific Company's Building
Repeated 'Dream Tower' Images Attached in Press Release Distributed to Media
"Image Attachment Was a Mistake, Not Intentional... Corrected Immediately"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Urban Construction Bureau is drawing criticism for repeatedly using images of a specific company's building in press releases distributed to media outlets.
On the 27th, the Jeju Urban Construction Bureau announced plans to fully operate a public architect system involving 34 experts from various fields through a press release titled "Jeju Province to Fully Utilize Public Architecture and Improve Spaces," while using an image of Jeju's largest integrated resort, "Dream Tower," which is unrelated to public architecture.
In response to Asia Economy's inquiry, an official from the Jeju Urban Construction Bureau's Architecture and Land Management Division stated, "The image was mistakenly attached when posting the press release," and after promising to correct it immediately, replaced the "Dream Tower" image with one of the provincial government office building.
However, this was not the first time Jeju Province used the "Dream Tower" image.
It was confirmed that from the regular briefing materials dated June 29, 2017, up to recently, the "Dream Tower" image has been repeatedly used as an attached photo in press releases. Among the four divisions under the Jeju City Urban Construction Bureau (Urban Planning and Regeneration Division, Architecture and Land Management Division, Construction Division, and Road Management Division), three divisions except the Road Management Division have repeatedly used the "Dream Tower" image.
By using photos of "Dream Tower" unrelated to the content of various press releases, the Jeju Urban Construction Bureau has invited criticism that it has become a promotional team for a specific company.
Currently, Jeju's "Dream Tower" is being developed as the largest integrated resort in Jeju, with 38 floors above ground (height 169m) and an area equivalent to 41 soccer fields (303,737㎡). The construction progress rate has reached 99.9%, and upon completion, it is expected to become Jeju's top landmark.
However, Jeju Province's use of the "Dream Tower" building as an image in press releases related to "public architecture" is causing misunderstandings, making it appear as if the building has public ownership, which has sparked controversy.
