Due to the resurgence of COVID-19, Taiwan and Singapore have raised the entry 'threshold' for arrivals from Korea
Taiwan Enforces 14-Day Self-Quarantine for Arrivals from Korea
Singapore Also Imposes Government-Designated Facility Quarantine for Arrivals from Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] As the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) resurges in Korea, some countries including Taiwan and Singapore are strengthening quarantine measures for arrivals from Korea.
According to the Korean Representative Office in Taipei and Taiwan's United Daily News on the 27th, Taiwan's health authorities removed Korea from the list of 'COVID-19 medium to low-risk countries' whose business visitors could have shortened self-quarantine periods as of the previous day.
Chen Shih-chung, Taiwan's Minister of Health and Welfare, stated, "Considering the recent spread of COVID-19 from church and assembly events to nursing facilities and the rapid increase in confirmed cases in Korea, we made this decision."
Minister Chen added, "Accordingly, visitors entering Taiwan from Korea must undergo a 14-day self-quarantine."
Previously, since late June, Taiwan's health authorities had allowed business entries from 11 low-risk countries and regions including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, and Thailand, as well as four medium to low-risk countries including Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Singapore also required arrivals from Korea to quarantine at home or their residence, but starting from the 29th, this will change to government-designated facility quarantine, which is a stricter measure than self-quarantine.
The Singapore Ministry of Health stated, "Korean authorities have warned of a nationwide COVID-19 outbreak," and "stricter social distancing measures have been implemented throughout Korea."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs understands that these strengthened quarantine measures for arrivals from Korea are not yet a general trend but are limited measures by some countries.
Taiwan and Singapore are countries with stable COVID-19 situations domestically and appear to be particularly cautious about the possibility of overseas importation.
