[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Sangju City announced on the 27th that its project "Embracing the Nakdong River to Create a Beautiful and Vibrant Bukcheon Attraction" was selected in the Gyeongbuk Province's regional development-linked river project competition.
As a result of the evaluation, Sangju City ranked first in both the first round (document screening) and the second round (presentation evaluation). Accordingly, a total of 30 billion KRW (including provincial and city funds) will be invested over three years starting from 2021 to develop Bukcheon.
The project section covers 4.1 km of Bukcheon from Bukmun-dong (Bukcheon Bridge) to Dongmun-dong (the confluence point with Byeongseongcheon). A waterfront space and a citizen history plaza will be created here. Additionally, a sports park, walking trails, MTB bicycle specialized roads, and ecological experience spaces will be constructed. Old embankments and 2.2 km of revetments will also be renovated.
Mayor Kang Young-seok of Sangju said, "By installing various rest, education, and sports spaces in this section, it will serve as a resting place for citizens and a tourist attraction for visitors to Sangju," adding, "We will make it a premium waterfront space to also contribute to the local economy."
