Chungnam Province Detects 14 Cases of Illegal Discharge Including Wastewater During Monsoon Season
[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 27th that it recently conducted a special crackdown on pollutant-emitting business sites within the province and detected 14 illegal cases.
The crackdown was carried out with the purpose of preemptively blocking illegal acts such as unauthorized discharge of pollutants during the rainy season and raising awareness about pollution activities. The targets were 50 air and wastewater discharge business sites within Chungnam.
The violations detected during the crackdown include ▲3 cases of neglecting mechanical breakdown or damage of discharge and prevention facilities ▲1 case of neglecting facilities leaking pollutants due to corrosion or wear ▲3 cases of failure to report changes in discharge facilities ▲4 cases exceeding discharge permissible standards. The province plans to take administrative measures and file charges according to the violations at each business site.

Song Young-ho, head of the Environmental Safety Management Division of the province, said, “We will continue guidance and inspections targeting local pollutant-emitting businesses to ensure illegal acts can be preemptively blocked,” and added, “We plan to respond strongly with a zero-tolerance policy toward detected environmental pollution violations.”
