Damyang-gun to Raise Bus Base Fare by 200 Won Starting Next Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 26th that the basic bus fare will increase by 200 won from 1,300 won to 1,500 won starting next month on the 1st.
Currently, the county's rural buses operate a total of 53 buses, including 25 seat buses and 28 regular buses, and the bus fare has remained unchanged since January 2017.
Last year, with the implementation of the 'Rural Single Fare System,' the bus fare for boarding and alighting within the county was applied regardless of distance: 1,300 won for adults, 1,000 won for middle and high school students, and 600 won for elementary school students. This reduction in fare burden contributed to increased bus usage by residents and visiting tourists and revitalized the local commercial district.
However, due to increased labor costs and rising transportation costs, as well as the worsening business conditions of bus companies caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jeonnam Consumer Policy Committee deliberated and resolved on fare and rate adjustments for city and rural buses on the 27th of last month, deciding to raise bus fares.
Starting next month on the 1st, fares will increase from 1,300 won to 1,500 won for adults, from 1,000 won to 1,200 won for middle and high school students, and from 650 won to 750 won for elementary school students. The basic fare for seat-type buses operating outside the county will also rise from 1,600 won to 1,800 won for adults, from 1,200 won to 1,400 won for middle and high school students, and from 700 won to 900 won for elementary school students.
The per kilometer section fare will also increase by 15.68 won from 116.14 won/km to 131.82 won/km.
