Elegant Brothers' Webtoon Platform 'Manhwagyeong' Reaches 240,000 Downloads in Just One Year
Writer Gateway Rising... Cumulative Episode Views Surpass 10 Million
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The webtoon platform service 'Manhwagyeong,' operated by Woowa Brothers, has emerged as a debut stage for new artists. Woowa Brothers (CEO Kim Beom-jun) announced on the 26th that Manhwagyeong, which marked its first anniversary, surpassed 240,000 cumulative downloads and 10 million cumulative episode views as of the end of July.
Launched at the end of August last year, Manhwagyeong currently features 31 serialized works and 25 short stories. The number of readers visiting Manhwagyeong has increased further this year. The number of visitors in July rose by 113% compared to January. It is evaluated that the platform has formed a dedicated fan base by drawing readers' empathy through stories infused with everyday life, modest fun, and laughter. Instead of popular action or school genres common in existing webtoons, it emphasizes straightforward stories in drama, humor, and romance genres without being provocative.

Improving the creative environment for artists also played a part in increasing satisfaction. Unlike other webtoon platforms that serialize once or twice a week, Manhwagyeong introduced biweekly serialization to guarantee artists' rest time. It provided conveniences for creative activities such as Baemin coupons, health checkups, and business cards for artists. In particular, Manhwagyeong serves as a gateway for aspiring comic artists. Over the past year, 56 artists, accounting for 80% of all Manhwagyeong artists, debuted through Manhwagyeong. Kim Yong-hoon, head of Manhwagyeong at Woowa Brothers, said, "Over the past year, Manhwagyeong has created its own atmosphere and readership with genres and stories differentiated from existing major webtoon platforms. We aim to provide a sustainable creative environment for artists and expand the webtoon market base by offering comics that cannot be found on other platforms to readers."
