Gyeongju City Surprised by Own Poll... Mayor Jun Nak-yeong Receives More Responses Citing 'Lack of Communication'

A public opinion survey revealed that nearly half of the citizens pointed out 'lack of communication' as the most notable issue regarding Mayor Jun Nak-young of Gyeongju. Since this negative feedback came from a survey commissioned by the Gyeongju city government itself, using local polling agencies at its own expense, there are some unexpected reactions both inside and outside the city hall regarding the disclosure of this survey.
In particular, the survey showed that a relatively high number of citizens responded that the first image that comes to mind when thinking of 'Mayor Jun Nak-young' is 'communication,' indicating a starkly divided public reaction to the mayor’s usual administrative management.
According to Gyeongju city on the 25th, in the recent 'Citizen Satisfaction and Administrative Demand' survey conducted to mark the 2nd anniversary of the 7th local government, 55.9% of respondents gave a positive evaluation saying they were 'satisfied' with the mayor’s administration, which was 23.0 percentage points higher than the 32.9% who expressed dissatisfaction.
Regarding the city’s future development potential based on the past two years of administrative activities, 60.5% responded that the city 'will develop,' which was 22.8 percentage points higher than the 37.7% who said it 'will not develop.'
The area rated as the most successful administrative achievement was culture, tourism, and sports (34.1%). This was followed by health and welfare (18.3%), regional development, safety, and environment (13.9%), economy and industry (11.3%), education and general administration (6.0%), and agriculture, livestock, and fisheries (4.5%).
However, in terms of sufficient communication and reflection of residents’ opinions during the policy-making process, 45.7% responded 'no,' which was higher than the 43.3% who responded 'yes.' In the survey about the first image that comes to mind when thinking of 'Mayor Jun Nak-young,' 'communication' was the highest at 14.0%, followed by passion (13.1%), leadership (8.2%), and pro-people (4.5%).

Meanwhile, this survey was conducted by Ace Research Co., Ltd., a polling agency, through one-on-one interviews with 1,000 adult men and women aged 18 or older residing in Gyeongju. The confidence level was 95%, with a sampling error of ±3.02 percentage points.
