Gwangyang-si Jinwol and Daap-myeon Welcome Declaration as Special Disaster Areas
Benefits such as Communication, Electricity, and City Gas Fee Reductions for Affected Residents
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced that the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters declared Jinwol-myeon and Daap-myeon as special disaster areas the day before.
Jung Hyun-bok, mayor of Gwangyang City, has continuously requested related agencies to declare a special disaster area for prompt recovery, as about 7 billion KRW in damages occurred in Jinwol-myeon and Daap-myeon due to heavy rains and the release from the Seomjin River Dam on the 7th and 8th.
As a result, being designated as a special disaster area has reduced the cost burden for restoring public facilities, and affected residents can receive benefits such as reductions in health insurance premiums and communication, electricity, and city gas fees.
Mayor Jung Hyun-bok said, “I hope the declaration of the special disaster area has given strength to the affected residents,” and added, “We will do our best to quickly provide disaster relief funds and donations so that residents’ lives can stabilize as soon as possible.”
