Chonnam National University Hosts 'International Academic Conference' Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the May 18 Movement
Online Event on 26-27th... Participation of 18 Domestic and International Researchers
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University will hold an international academic conference commemorating the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement online from the 26th to the 27th at the College of Humanities' Kim Nam-joo Hall and the Lee Eul-ho Memorial Lecture Room.
According to Chonnam National University on the 25th, this academic conference is jointly hosted by the May 18 Research Institute (Director Choi Jung-gi), the Korean Political Thought Association, and the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education.
Under the theme "Imagination of the Post-May 18 Generation, Beyond Gwangju, Beyond Generations," 18 domestic and international researchers will present their topics, followed by discussions in each session.
The focus is on the demand for changes that transcend Gwangju and generations, and the need for a shift in research perspectives on Korea's democratization movement after democratization, emphasizing the emergence of new researchers with different viewpoints and questions from existing researchers.
Accordingly, while researchers of the May 18 generation have studied the democratization movement and May 18 with a sense of political debt and ethical responsibility, it is expected that, starting with this academic conference, research from new perspectives that reduce the emotional and sensory gap with the post-May 18 generation will be developed.
