Mapo-gu Operates Emergency Online Learning Support Care 'Youth Educare'
Supplemented Learning Support and Care Program for the Recent 'Online Learning Mentoring Support Project'... Supporting Insufficient Subject Learning and Care Gaps Caused by Online Learning
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) will operate the emergency online learning support care program for elementary school students in need of care, ‘Youth Educare,’ in collaboration with the Mapo Youth Culture House starting from the 28th.
Since April until July, the district has been running the ‘Online Learning Mentoring Support Project’ for vulnerable children in connection with the start of online classes due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), together with the Mapo-gu Education Welfare Support Center.
After the ‘Online Learning Mentoring Support Project’ ended, through satisfaction surveys and feedback collection, the district recognized the limitations of non-face-to-face online learning mentor support and confirmed the demand for practical learning assistance such as detailed supplementary learning and assignment support, as well as the need for care for children from vulnerable households.
Accordingly, as part of the Mapo Innovation Education District project, the district plans to minimize learning gaps and parental childcare burdens and care gaps caused by elementary students not attending school due to COVID-19 while attending online classes at home by operating ‘Youth Educare.’
From the 18th, the district recruited a total of 30 students as priority candidates for the ‘Youth Educare’ service from dual-income families, single-parent families, and families eligible for education expense support.
The operating hours of ‘Youth Educare’ are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday every week.
The program is scheduled to end in December.
Instructors and institutional quarantine managers will continuously inspect the quarantine of the Mapo Youth Culture House, where learning and care take place, to ensure students’ safety. Utilizing several vacant spaces due to closure, the service will be provided by accommodating only a minimum number of people in each space.
Additionally, the district will recruit emergency care supporters composed of youth activity veterans and local activists to support students who experience difficulties in learning during the educational process. They will also play a role in thoroughly adhering to and inspecting quarantine rules to completely block COVID-19 infection and create a safe educational environment.
