Gurye-gun Implements Support Measures for Heavy Rain Damage
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Mi-seok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do, which suffered unprecedented damage from the recent heavy rain, is implementing support policies for residents facing difficulties.
First, the county has decided to defer the issuance of the August equalized resident tax notice by its own authority.
The resident tax is a tax paid by household heads, individual business owners, and corporations registered in Gurye as of July 1, by August 31.
However, due to the severe damage caused by the recent heavy rain, the payment deadline has been extended to November 30, and the tax notices will be sent out in November.
Additionally, tax reduction measures have been prepared for vehicles that were scrapped due to flood damage and for destroyed buildings.
For vehicles damaged by flooding that have comprehensive car insurance, submitting a ‘Total Loss Certificate’ and an ‘Incident Report’ obtained within two years when reporting acquisition tax for a newly acquired vehicle allows for a tax reduction calculated based on the value of the damaged vehicle (new car price standard).
If the vehicle is not insured with comprehensive car insurance, the owner can visit the local township or town office in the affected area to obtain a ‘Damage Confirmation Certificate’ and submit it along with the ‘Scrap Certificate’ when reporting acquisition tax.
For buildings damaged by flooding, if the existing building is demolished and a new building is constructed or extended within two years from the date of damage, acquisition tax can be reduced based on the floor area of the demolished building.
Furthermore, Gurye-gun has been conducting free typhoid vaccinations at the Public Health Center and the Munchuk, Toji, and Masan health branches since the 9th to prevent waterborne infectious diseases among flood victims.
The typhoid vaccines used were provided with support and cooperation from 14 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do. From the day after the flooding, the 9th, through the 21st, 1,049 people including soldiers from the 3rd Battalion of the 3791st Unit involved in flood recovery support, volunteers, and flood victims received vaccinations.
Typhoid bacteria infect through contaminated food or water and cause acute systemic fever, headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea after an incubation period of 1 to 2 weeks. Therefore, in flood-affected areas, there is a heightened risk of exposure to waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases, requiring special caution.
A Public Health Center official said, “Please boil water before drinking, avoid consuming food or drinks that may be contaminated, and pay special attention to personal hygiene management.”
