Jin Joong-kwon: "If You Want to Shift the Blame for the Quarantine Failure, Just Hand Over the Administration"
"Undermining Awareness with Useless Remarks"
"Government and Ruling Party Responsible for Promoting Travel with Coupons"
"Do Not Shift the Blame for Policy Judgment Errors"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Ju-hee] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon pointed out that the responsibility for the failure of the COVID-19 quarantine lies with the government and the ruling party, and warned against blaming the United Future Party for it.
On the 21st, Jin wrote on his Facebook, "Whether it succeeds or fails, the responsibility for the quarantine failure falls on the government, and if you don't like it, you should give up the administration," adding, "There are three major issues to point out."
Jin said, "First, every time President Moon Jae-in said that COVID-19 was under control, the virus immediately spread again. This has happened three times already," and criticized, "The president has the duty to accurately inform the public about the dangers of the virus. It was the president who weakened the public's vigilance against the virus with unnecessary remarks."
He continued, "Second, the government's decision to lift the ban on small church gatherings at the end of July was a decisive mistake that caused this situation," pointing out, "Currently, most clusters are occurring around small church gatherings. The government and ruling party should reflect on and apologize for this critical misjudgment."
Jin added, "Third, wasn't it also the government and ruling party who, not anticipating this situation, encouraged travel by even giving out coupons until just before the outbreak?" He said, "Experts have long warned that fostering an atmosphere of easing vigilance is dangerous."
He went on, "The United Future Party maintained a certain distance from the Gwanghwamun rallies, though not completely," and said, "It is wrong to politicize quarantine issues. The responsibility to be asked of the United Future Party is minimal. Do not try to shift the errors of your own policy judgments onto others."
